Pretty Baby- ColourQ

Hi everyone- hope you are having a great week so far!

Today there is a new palette up over on ColourQ

Here is a look at my project
I used my Cameo to cut the background mat from white Bazzill.

I used a variety of crocheted flowers, brads, buttons, ribbon and a stick pin to accent the corner of my photo. I matted the photo in the two shades of blue- adding faux stitching on the mat.

These two little hearts are from Blue Fern Studios- I used a paint pen on them and added white details. The alphas are Thickers.

I used  stencil and modeling paste to add a little texture on the white cardstock- you know I can't take white space!

Treasure The Moment- Frosted Designs new Challenge!

Hi everyone!
My laptop crashed, after I started this post, but before I finished it.
So if you saw it earlier in the draft stage, I am so sorry!!

Over at Frosted Designs we have a new Challenge going on
using a fabulous Summer Mood Board!

Here is my take on the challenge
This photo is my DD2 and her college roommates on a cruise a couple of years ago.

My chippie is from Blue Fern Studios, and I have used Lindy's Stamp Gang EP's on it.  I punched a plain piece of cardstock around the edge, and then used a wash of Lindy's Magicals on it. I highlighted the edge with a Signo White Pen.

I used two colors of Lindy's EPs on this chippie from Blue Fern. I layered the chippie on top of some bling.

I had one little lonely piece of this FabScraps paper left, so I wanted to use it where it would count! I punched some pennant pieces out and made a little banner leading to my photo.

I backed this chippie with black CS to make the words really pop out.

I wanted to highlight that one portion of my journaling, so I added a piece of washi tape and wrote over it again.

Be sure to join in the fun and link up your project over on the main blog!

I used the following from the Frosted Designs Store- be sure to stop by and see what is new!!

Deconstructed Layout #8 The Grad

Graduation photo
For this Deconstructed Layout - The Grad - I had two goals in mind;
1. use the tiny photo to advantage
2. use up some paper scraps that I had laying around
I only had one photo to scrapbook for this layout so I needed to make the most of it. I am not a fan of only using one photo on a page- but when that's all you have to work with,, what are you going to do?

I am so excited about this series of tutorials and I hope that you are enjoying them too!!
To see all the tutorials in this series be sure to hop over to this page

using paper scraps
To use up the paper scraps, I trimmed them to 3/4" wide x 3 1/2", then cut a notch in one end. I inked them all using the same color to make them a little more uniform. I applied a strip of double stick tape across the page 1/2" BELOW where I wanted the top of the border to be, and applied the first/bottom row. I added a second strip of tape above the first row, a little closer to where I wanted the top to be, and added the second/top row. I cut some of them shorter to give it more interest. When I was done, I sewed straight across, above the lines of tape, and added a punched strip of cardstock.

tiny photo mat
To make my photo more visible against the colors I used on the background, I used the same contrasting color all around the photo. The photo mats and the die-cut stickers are from the Prima Princess collection. By using the same color ink on everything, all the little details around the photo blend together, which allows the photo to stand out. I even used the same color ink on the Confetti Heart chipboards.

chipboard alphas
The alphas from the Prima collection were not quite the right color, so I put them on a piece of acetate and used the same color ink on them.

adding texture
I added some stitching on my machine following the pattern on the paper. I finished up by adding some detail in the upper corner using my Confetti Stencil from Heidi Swapp, VersaMark, and Lindy's Stamp Gang Embossing Powders.

There you have it. I hope you enjoyed today's Deconstructed Layout.

Play layout with Sparkle N Sprinkle

Good morning everyone, hope you are having a fabulous weekend so far.
I am gearing up for Girl Scout Camp, which starts tomorrow! I have been
the Director of Camp for 16 years now and I really look forward to this week all year long!
I will be MIA this week, as I have 100 campers to play with ;o)

Today I have another project for Sparkle N Sprinkle to share with you.
This month the new stamp sets were amazing!

Here is my little orphan kitty that we adopted last year. He wandered up onto our porch with two broken hips, poor little baby! He had been hit by a car. Of course we ran him straight to the vet, and worked on getting him healed. He is a bit rambunctious these days and you would never know that he had both hips broken at only 9 months old.

I have used Bazzill cardstocks, Pink Paislee Journal cards, Tim Holtz grungeboard letters,
punches and wood from American Crafts on my layout.

I cut this film reel with my Cameo, and I added a thin line of glitter down each side using 1/8" Tear-ific Tape.
I used Stickum and Glitter on the punched border behind the photo. I have a tutorial on how to use Stickum HERE. I used the new Leafy Flourish Stamp behind my photo strip.

Here is another look at the Leafy Flourish stamp, I embossed with Detail Black EP. I inked the squares behind the letters, and embossed the letters themselves to make them standout.

I used two colors of Embossing Powder on the wood banner. I masked off the top portion to emboss the flags, then reversed the process to emboss the top. I also used the circles from the new Journal Mixed Media set.

My sentiment is from the new Camera Life set, and I used the Stickum technique on the chipboard swirls. I finished off by dripping some ink on the background.

Hi everyone!
Today I have another layout to share with you
this time using the new color Palette up at ColourQ!

Here is a look at my project
Right now I am working on my daughter's photos from way back in the day.
This is DD1 and her first bike. Look how cute she is! She is almost 27 years old and
about to have her first child- it just doesn't seem possible!

I have used a Blue Fern Studios chipboard to frame my photo and I heat embossed
it with Blue Silver from Sparkle N Sprinkle

The flowers are Prima, and I am Roses, brads are from Basic Grey, and bling is Want2Scrap.

I used a variety of Ranger inks on the background. My Alphas are from Simple Stories and Carta Bella.

Thanks so much for stopping by today!

I have Blog Candy Available!
Check out all the details HERE.

Deconstrcted Layout #7 Bliss

The Deconstructed Layout
For this Deconstructed Layout - Bliss- I want to talk about perspective.
I didn't start scrapbooking until my kids were in high school. When they were babies, we didn't have digital cameras, and we didn't even have really great cameras unless you spent a fortune on them. So the majority of the photos I have from those days are not that fantastic. Most of them are not what I would take today, that is for sure! They have distracting backgrounds, they are taken from far away, I never considered the lighting-- I just took pictures. And because technology was not that great, even scanning them is not an option sometimes- they are too grainy when enlarged. The only option is to scrap them as is.

So,, I only have this one little photo of my precious baby on her first bike with the training wheels. Now, I was able to scan this one in and do a little editing to it; there was a HUGE trashcan right behind her head- really- it looked like it was growing out of her head! So I was able to take that out. But it was too grainy to really blow up so I had to leave it pretty much the same size.

To see all the tutorials in my Deconstructed Layout series be sure to hop over to this page.

photo editing
Now, if this was a digital photo, we would just hit delete and move on. But, this is the only one I have. So my choices are to scrap it like this or do without.  In the end, I want to scrap these memories, so I'm using these photos even if they are not great. Such is life.

There are a few tricks you can use to make a photo "pop".

photo frame
#1. Layering the photo up off the page will help the eye focus on the photo before it gets to the embellishments. For this I used a chipboard frame. Normally we would put the chipboard frame on TOP of the photos, but in this instance that was the opposite of what I wanted. As you can see above, when the photo is below the chipboard your eye focuses on the chipboard first, the photo second. When you put the photo on top of the chipboard, the eye naturally focuses on the photo first, which is what we want.

making photos pop
#2. I used stickers strategically on my photo to call attention to my daughter- because she is not very big in the photo itself. If I cropped all the excess out of the photo that would leave a photo that was about 1 X 2- not nearly big enough for a layout.

color palette
#3. I used a limited palette so I wouldn't overwhelm the eye. Even though there is color on the page, nothing really stands out. I used 3 colors of embossing powder on the chipboard frame, but it almost blends into the black background- leaving the photo floating up there on top.

If you have photos you have not yet scrapped because they are not "perfect" - it is time to get them out. There are so many ways to get those photos onto layouts. After all, it is about the memories, not a perfect photo.

This month the theme is "Handmade Gifts" and I have made a set of
note cards to give to a graduate I know.

I used letterpress paper for the writing surface of my note cards. I bought a HUGE pack of these at a grab sale years ago and they have a beautiful torn edge on them- love that!

I used a new stamp set from Sparkle N Sprinkle Sparkle Silhouette #621 that was just revealed this weekend. I added some sparkle down the side using 1/8" Tear-ific Tape and Cyclamen Glitter. I finished off by matting on coordinating cardstock.

I used the main image from the set on the envelope front.

I used my Wink of Stella pen to highlight a few areas here and on the card itself.

I have some blog candy to give away!!

What's included:

3 big packs of bling
chipboard pieces
Over 100 Prima Flowers
 American Crafts Ribbon
3 Mixed Media ink pads
