Camp Banner using Fabric Mod Podge

It's almost time for Day Camp so it's time to make super fun and cute camp crafts! Today I want to share a banner that I made using Fabric Mod Podge.

My supplies are
  • Fabric Mod Podge,
  • canvas pieces
  • cotton fabric from ADORNit
  • Folk Art Paints
  • Sizzix dies (NOTE: I ended up not using the dies shown I didn't like the way the flowers looked and went with a woodsy look instead!)
  • Black pen
  • 1 1/2" wide cotton ribbon
  • big stick :)

I started by adding faux stitching around the edges of each panel and painting some trees a la Bob Ross for the background. Putting two shades of paint on my mixing palette and loading both on my brush at the same time gave me the depth of color I was looking for.

After die cutting the trees it was time to apply the Mod Podge. I grabbed a fluffy craft paint brush a applied the Mod Podge to the back of each piece one at a time. It dries surprisingly FAST! Apply the applique to your base piece and use your fingers to smooth the fabric piece down, starting from the center and working your way our to the edge to avoid trapping air bubbles underneath. Set everything aside to dry for a couple of hours.

Apply a thin layer of Mod Podge to the top of the appliques to seal. I brushed just slightly over the edge to make sure I didn't leave any loose threads from the fabric.
TIP: be sure to wait 72 hours before washing your piece.

To hang my banner I sewed loops made from cotton ribbon (isn't that the cutest ribbon EVER?? It is a roll I have been hoarding saving for a while now as it is no longer available). I grabbed a stick from the back yard to hang it from and there you go- super cute banner all ready to add to our nurse's tent.

DIY Moody Dress

My two year old princess is a little Moody sometimes! It is so easy to create your own DIY Moody Dress using the new EMOJIS from Joy and a few simple supplies.

Iron on letters

Supplies:
- Plain toddler dress from the craft store

- Joy Embroidered Letters and Emojis

- Ribbon flowers and narrow ribbon

- Needle and thread

- Iron

    toddle dress

Start by laying your dress down on your ironing surface. Line up your letters and emojis using a ruler to get your spacing right. Iron on each piece, following the directions on the packages.

    Fun Emojis

Tie a bow using a thin ribbon, then stitch the bow to the dress as shown. Stitch the ribbon flower on top of the bow. Make sure both are secure and well-knotted so little hands can't pull them off.

    Chunky iron on letters

I used these fun, chunky style letters - they come in several colors, perfect for all your projects. There are several styles of emojis - collect them all!

    Tie Dye T-shit Tutorial

Let me just say - that I am a tie-dying fool. I LOVE to tie-dye! I try to work it in every few years at the Day Camp that I run. The campers love to tie-dye too. Nothing makes a 100 kids happier than getting to make their own custom t-shirts and getting color all over themselves in the process.

I started with a clean white t-shirt and a mini Tie-Dye kit from Tulip in Fiesta. The kit comes with everything you need to create your own masterpiece, die, bottles, gloves, rubber bands, and a Project Guide that will tell you all the different ways you can dye your shirt.

My personal favorite style is the swirl. You will need to start in the middle of the shirt, pinch and twirl, and continue on until the entire shirt is wrapped up in a nice, flat disc.

Keep the shirt as flat as possible, add three rubber bands evenly spaced so you have 6 sections on the shirt. Now it's time to add the dye!!

Make sure you put the gloves on for this step. Really. Learn from me young Jedi. Add water as directed on the bottles and shake, making sure you still have the cap on. You will add the first color to every other section and then fill in with the second color. I like to do this step on a cookie sheet with a rack. That way if I have to put the shirt down it is on the rack, rather than sitting in the dye.
TIP: You can also use three colors for this pattern. You would fill in two sections with each color, the sections would be directly across the circle from each other.

Once you have all your color on, it is time to put your shirt in a gallon zipper top bag and let it sit overnight. In the morning dump the shirt in your washer and THEN snip the rubber bands.
    Trust me on this one.
    Seriously.
Wash on a full cycle in hot water with a little bit of soap and then dry.
Bam! You are now a Tie-dye master!

    Through the Looking Glass Paperweight

    Through the Looking Glass Paperweight.
Hi everyone, today I have a super cool product from Deflecto Crafts to share with you. I made this Through the Looking Glass Paperweight using the Large Acrylic Display Block and some supplies I had in my studio. I am the Director of the local Girl Scout Camp and this year our theme is Alice in Wonderland. One lucky volunteer will be getting this as a thank you gift in their goody bag :)

The Large Acrylic Display Block is 4" x 4" x 1.5". (There is also a smaller block that is 3" x 3" x 2") I only needed to add some foil stickers I had from a previous project and who doesn't have a ton of ribbon hanging out in their craft room??  Seriously,, go grab these supplies and let's get started.
    Go ahead,,,I'll wait.

Look how cute that little mushroom is! Because the acrylic block is fairly deep I knew I could put stickers on both sides and play off the dimension of the block. If you have little kids this is a great way to throw some STEM in their day - just saying.  I added the large sticker on the front with a couple of little bitty leaves, then turned it around to add some fun to the back.

I added more leaves and a couple of fun dragonflies to the back of the block.

When you look through the front, it looks like my dragonflies are way off in the background - it's magic y'all!
